Spring 2003 Class Announcments
June 3: Correction for homework 6. The frequency distribution approach works for numerical data. For those questions where the responses were A-E, you need to use the countif function. To do so, pick a blank cell and write the following: =countif(D1:DN, "letter"), then hit control shift enter. As on your sheet D1-Dn are the cell addresses for the first and last of the data your tabulating. "letter" = the letter corresponding to the particular response you're counting. thus if you were tabulating the responses to question 4 on the club survey, you'd enter =countif(E1:E96, "A") to get the number selecting A. You'd need to type in the command in another cell with B, etc. You may need to make the columns wider or else you columns to the right of Q for these commands. If you want to try the frequency distributions now in order to improve your homework grade, I'll take them through Wednesday of next week. Sorry for the confusion. I guess my brain retired a week too early!
June 1: Save the appropriate Excel file to your hard drive before doing the calculations for homework 6. Lab or club survey.
May 26: Several people have asked about data on earnings by educational level. You can find this information from the March CPS fpr each year, available at http://www.bls.census.gov/cps/ads/sdata.htm. Scroll down and select "detailed personal income" under each year. The mean income by educational attainment is at the bottom of the table. I don't know of one table that has this information for all years.

April 21: I have a copy of the ECOn 202 text if you would like to look at it in conjunction with the paper assignment. You can look at it in my office after 1 tomorrow.
