Instructions for downloading and setting up Hydrotherm 2D.

These instructions work and have been tested with a PC running Windows 98 and Internet Explorer 5.0.

Download and set up:

1. Unzip the file to your hard disk (keep directory structure). Everything should be under the folder hti_0.43

2. Using Windows Explorer, go to the hti_0.43 folder and open the bin folder. Double click on hti.exe. A program window should open.

3. Click Help > Contents. This should launch your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) and display the contents of the on-line help pages. (If this fails to happen, then launch your web browser manually, and try clicking Help > Contents again.)

4. Directions on how to use the model is given by the on-line help pages.

Many examples are included (see the folder called examples). Most of the examples involve multi-phase (water-steam) flow. However, for this first exercise, try the single phase example. See the folder called basin.

To see the basin example, try the following.

1. From the program window, click File > Open. Navigate to the examples\basin folder and open the file basin.hti.

2. After the file loads, you will see the outline of the basin.

3. You can look at the grid, rock types, etc.

4. To run the model, click Show > Postprocessor. This will open a new window (postprocessor) that shows the model results.

5. From the drop-list box at center top of the postprocessor window, select "temperature" to see the temperature evolution as the simulation runs.

6. Click the top left button to run the model. The temperature distribution is updated with each time step.

7. Click the button marked "w" (with arrow beneath) to should water flux vectors.
