Top Six Resources for Newbies and Educators.

This is an annotated list of web sites devoted to use of the Internet, and the construction of web pages. This list was passed on to our group from Jean Moule, who in turn received through several other colleagues. See my note on the term 'Newbie' below.

  1. Intel's Connected PC: Lessons Learn the lingo of the net, how to download, and some cool tips and tricks. Ask questions of the famous PC Dads.
  2. Learn the Net Learn the Net has everything from info on discussion forums to a beginners guide to web publishing
  3. Newbie Help All the basic information that you will need to get started will be organized for you on this one little page. Refer to it time and time again, anytime you need refreshing.
  4. Internet Web Text Index Tons of links. Find anything you need as a beginner from this index page.
  5. Newbie.net Nice little course for Newbies. Just follow the instructions
  6. Internet Resources Guide A "nice" page of useful internet resources that are familiar to anyone who's been online for more than a week. If you're a newbie however, you'll find it quite useful when looking for information on the Internet.
HTML Quick Reference is a reference to basic HTML coding. It has a list of the commonly used tags necessary for a document to be viewed by a browser. It needs a better introduction to the basic structure of an HTML document. Once you understand this structure this site is a good information sources
PS: I personally dislike the use of the term Newbie (an internet novice). I feel it stigmatizes new computer users. However, as you can see from the description of the sites, it is a frequently used term. If you are a "Newbie", do you mind being referred to by this term? Its amazing how prevalent these types of derogatory labels are throughout our culture. On the other hand, Newbie is a lot easier to repeatedly saying or typing ‘new internet user'. What do you think?
