INSTRUCTOR

OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY --- BI301 --- HUMAN IMPACTS ON ECOSYSTEMS

Dr. Patricia Muir , Professor , Department of Botany and Plant Pathology

I am now in my 27th year of teaching at OSU. I am a plant ecologist, with particular interests in the effects of land management practices (especially various harvesting and thinning methods) on forest plants and plant communities in forest ecosystems. I also conduct research on effects of various fuel reduction techniques on native and exotic species and on nontimber forest products, particularly the harvesting of forest "moss." In the past, my research focused on effects of air pollutants on plants, both in the field and in controlled environments and on the chemistry of polluted fogwater. I served for many years as  Director of Oregon State University's Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Program but left that position in June of 2012.

Office : Cordley 1096

Office hours: I do not post regular office hours, as I am available to meet with you virtually whenever I am in, and the chances that my office hours would match your schedule are small. I encourage you to stop by, phone, or send me an e-mail to set up an appointment. If you stop by at a time that isn't convenient, I'll let you know! The only exception to my "open door" policy is the hour before class meets; I reserve that hour for last minute preparation -- please do not drop by during that hour!! If you call to set up an appointment and end up leaving a message on my telephone, please remember to leave me your phone number so that I can return your call!
