The NairnFEAMPM application is finite element analysis (FEA) and material point method (MPM) software for the Macintosh. NairnFEAMPM is being developed by Prof. John A. Nairn from the Wood Science and Engineering Department at Oregon State University. This application is free but it is a dynamic work in progress as part of an active research program.
Starting with NairnFEAMPM 3.0, all binaries for calculations and third-party software are bundled within the application. You can therefore simply drag the application to your computer and begin running calculations immediately.
Starting with NairnFEAMPM 4.0, the application now requires MacOS Leopard (10.5 or newer) and a Mac with Intel chips. It has become too difficult to support non-Intel chips and older MacOS's. To determine if your computer is acceptable, choose "About This Mac" from the Apple menu and check the MacOS version and the processor name. You can still run in MacOS Tiger (10.4) using a legacy download below, but you will have to manually download and compile the binaries.
Each download is a disk image. Simply drag the application to your Applications folder (or any other location) to install. Double click the installed application to start using it. See the "Help" menu when it starts for details (and for intructions on some quick start, sample calculations).

| NairnFEAMPM 4.0 (Universal) with binaries This univerisal (32/64 bit) application contains universal binaries for finite element analysis (NairnFEA 2.9.0) and for material point method analysis (NairnMPM 8.1.0) along with the xerces library (version 3.1.1) that is used to process XML data.

| NairnFEAMPM 4.0 - no binaries This version has no binaries and will not do any calculations until you download and compile the code engine source code available in the nairn-mpm-fea project as external binaries. For details, see the "Code Engine Development" help in the NairnFEAMPM application.

To see what's new (for previous users), contact information, disclaimers, and more, open the help window using the "Help" menu in the downloaded application. If for some reason, you cannot get the binaries to run on your computer, you can convert to using external binaries by following the "Code Engine Development" help topic. Using external boundaries also allows you to keep up to date with last code engines without needing to update the NairnFEAMPM application.
If your Mac has only MacOS Tiger (10.4) and/or old Power PC chips, you can still run the latest calculations, but you will have to rely on a legacy version of the NairnFEAMPM front end application. You can download that legacy application (without any binaries) in the following table.

| NairnFEAMPM 3.0 - no binaries This version should be used only if your Mac has MacOS Tiger (10.4) and/or has a Power PC processor. It has no binaries and will not do any calculations. But it can be set up to run the latest calculations by downloading and compiling the code engine source code available in the nairn-mpm-fea project as external binaries. For details, see the "Code Engine Development" help in the NairnFEAMPM application.

The NairnFEAMPM system is free but uses an unlocking code to help monitor those using the system. By registering you will hear about developments and/or about any problems that might arise. To get a free registration code, fill out the form on the registration web site. A free code will usually arrive by email within a few days. While waiting you can use the application in "Trial Mode". If you previously registered for the JANFEA application, the code for that application will work in NairnFEAMPM as well.
NairnFEAMPM is being developed as part of the author's research program. This program have been supported by various organizations. Some specific acknowledgments go to:
