Forestry building          The National Agricultural University is located in the capital of Ukraine Kyiv. The Institute of Forestry and Landscape Architecture is one of the oldest departments at NAUU. Its history begins with the Institute of Agriculture in the Marymont city near to Warsaw that was opened in 1816. In 1840, the Marymont Institute of Agriculture was united with the Warsaw Forestry School as the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry. In 1862, The Institute was transferred to the city of Novooleksandriya. The famous forest scientist Prof. V.V. Dokuchaev worked as the head of the Novooleksandriiskii Institute from 1892 to 1895.
With the beginning of the First World War, Novooleksandriiskii Institute was evacuated to Kharkiv, and in 1921 it was reestablished as Kharkiv Agricultural Institute that included the College of Forestry. Prof. G.M. Vysotskii was the head of the Silvicultural Department there in 1925 - 1930.
In 1926, the Government of Ukraine decided to construct new buildings for the Agricultural and Forestry Institutes in the historical region of Golosievo in Kyivv. The College of Forestry of Kharkiv Agricultural Institute moved to Kyiv in 1930. Together with the College of Forest Engineering of the Kyiv Agricultural Institute (established in 1922), they were reorganized into the Ukrainian Forest Technological Institute that was located in the First building of the NAUU shown on the picture to the left.
With the beginning of the World War II, students and staff of the Institute became a part of the battalion that fought in Golosievo forests. After the liberation of Kyiv, students began the classwork in damaged buildings in 1944. The new period for the College of Forestry has begun in 1954 when several institutes located in Golosievo were reorganized into the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy that was renamed into the National Agricultural University of Ukraine (NAUU) in 1995.
