Description:
XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is basically a markup language like MARC. However, XML is a much more verbose, and human friendly markup format, and as such, easier for users to manipulate. Like Dublin Core, XML has been quickly finding a niche set of users. So why then provide a crosswalk to bring the data back into MARC? One of the benefits of XML is that it is a great neutral format in that, data in XML can be crosswalked into other data sets. Since most libraries still utilize MARC as their primary markup language, it simply made sense to provide a crosswalk between the two formats.
