About:
MarcEdit Delimited Text Translator is NEW a freeware add-on to the MarcEdit application as of version 4.2. The MarcEdit Delimited Text Translator has been developed to aid users who need to convert data in a delimited text file into MARC. Until now, users who wanted to convert delimited text files into MARC files had to come up with their own method to get the delimited data into the MarcEdit mnemonic file format. The MarcEdit Delimited Text Translator frees users of this requirement, by providing users with a pre-built solution for moving delimited text data to MarcEdit's mnemonic file format. Once in the MarcEdit mnemonic file format, users can edit or make the records into MARC for loading into their library system. Potentially, this tool could be used to generate MARC files from aggregator datasets in tab delimited format or directly from MS Excel or Access files.
The MarcEdit Delimited Text Translator allows users to custom define the field/subfield relationship, indicators and ending termination of the field/subfield for each delimited data cell. Moreover, the utility provides a generic LDR and 008 which can be modified using MarcEdit's global editing tools.
