Project and Goals
Project: Create learning communities through chat groups among the students in my web Calculus courses at OSU. The idea was to create space for the students to write on the more subjective aspects of the course such as how they study, learn, know, and appreciate mathematics. Topics they don't normally talk about in a traditional course. The students were asked to write on thought-provoking questions and to respond to answers given by other students. These often resulted in significant dialogues between students.
Goals: The goal of these chat groups was to help the students view teaching as a career option through attempting to improve their attitude towards mathematics and helping them improve their efficiency in studying and learning.
