Research

My research includes investigations of large-scale climate dynamics, tropical meteorology, the hydrologic cycle, medical entomology, mosquito ecology, infectious disease, and climate and disease forecast. Presently, I study ENSO teleconnections, in particular the effect of ENSO on the North African-Asian jet. This has led to the study of Rossby wave dynamics, atmospheric jet waveguides, the coupled South Asian monsoon-ENSO system, extratropical precipitation, and Atlantic-basin tropical cyclogenesis. In addition, I investigate how hydrologic variability affects mosquito ecology and mosquito-borne disease transmission, and the environmental determinants of influenza transmission and seasonality.
